Updated: Rural health statistics published today.

This publication looks at a range of health indicators intended to give an indication of the quality of life people have and the quality of health care that people have access to. If people lead healthy lifestyles and are able to access health facilities nearby then they will be able to enjoy a high quality of life.

Indicators:

  • life expectancy at birth
  • infant mortality rate per 1,000 live births
  • potential years of life lost from a range of common illnesses

Coverage: England

Rural definition used: Local Authority Rural-Urban Classification (Life Expectancy and Potential Years of Life Lost), Office for National Statistics Rural-Urban Definition (Infant Mortality)

Next release date: 2010-12 Life expectancy data and potential years of life lost data are due to be published Summer 2014. 2012 infant mortality data to be published in November 2013.
