Updated: Correction made to section 5.5. Local authority phonics reporting dates changed from Monday 16 June to Monday 30 June.
This is departmental advice for anyone who is involved in the administration and scoring of the phonics screening check including:
- headteachers
- teachers
- local authorities
It applies to:
- all maintained schools
- academies and free schools
The check is for:
- all year 1 pupils
- pupils in year 2 who did not meet the required standard for the check in year 1
The purpose of the check is to confirm that all children have learned phonic decoding to an age-appropriate standard.
A copy of this document should be taken into the room where the check will be administered.
The phonics screening check will be administered during the week commencing 16 June 2014.
