Research into differences in substance misuse and mental health of male and female prisoners. Based on Wave 1 of the Surveying Prisoner Crime Reduction (SPCR) longitudinal cohort study which tracked the progress of 1,435 newly sentenced prisoners (in England and Wales in 2005 and 2006). It finds differences between male and female prisoners with respect to substance misuse and mental health, but also notes areas of similarity.
