Transport makes up a large proportion of our domestic greenhouse gas emissions. Advanced fuels could offer several advantages over some ‘first-generation’ biofuels. They are potentially more environmentally and socially sustainable, particularly if made from waste or residue feedstocks.
Market forces alone may not be enough to deliver the technologies needed to decarbonise the transport sector and this call for evidence seeks to establish whether this assessment is correct and whether government intervention is necessary.
We are seeking evidence on the current state of advanced fuel development. We would like to understand more about the deployment potential of various fuel technologies, whether the market needs support or encouragement to develop and whether there is anything that the government can or should do to help.
The evidence we are seeking is intended to form a comprehensive knowledge base from which we can set out a clear policy.
