The purpose of Directive 2005/65/EC is to extend the existing port security regime for EU Member States beyond the immediate ship and port interface (covered by Regulation (EC) 725/2004) to enhance security in the wider port area.
The directive requires the:
- designation of a Port Security Authority
- appointment of a Port Security Officer
- conduct of a Port Security Risk Assessment
- creation of a Port Security Plan
The draft designation orders append plans delineating the area which the Port Security Authority will cover for the purposes of this directive.
